Have any of you caught some of the news about Paula Deen and the her big reveal about having diabetes? I have.
I was watching some news source yesterday, I honestly don’t remember which one, and they were going on and on about how she should have told everyone when she found out and how it’s not right for her to go on cooking her typical butter and sugar filled food.
After hearing this I felt the need to comment about my thoughts.

I realize that Paula is a public figure but she is still her own person. She has spent years (a lot longer than she has had diabetes) perfecting her brand. Honestly, who wants to watch Paula Deen cook heart healthy, it’s not her unless it has a least one stick of butter and a cup of sugar to boot. As for her disclosing her illness, last time I checked you medical records were privy information and if you don’t feel the need to share them, you don’t have too.
As to her becoming a representative for her diabetes medication, there are many other celebrity spokesperson for different diabetes medications and services and no one is hounding them about what their diet is or how they cook. No one cares!
I have watched Paula’s show on many occasions and never have I heard her say, “if your diabetic, you should make this recipe.” How about you? If she does eat like that and smoke every day that is her choice.
Should Paula Deen be accountable for showing all these rich, fatty recipes since she is diabetic? Maybe, but only to herself. If she wants to eat those foods and put herself into an early grave that’s her prerogative. I don’t believe she eats that food daily, the shows not called Everyday Meals.
For those of you that are diabetic I hope you agree that you should know what you should or shouldn’t eat. So if you see Paula make something with two sticks of butter and three cups of sugar you can say,“guess I’m not making that.”
This post is pure opinion and was not meant to insult anyone in anyway. I respect that many people will not agree with me. I just wanted a chance to get my two cents in. Thanks for reading!

So... my blog is about heart healthy living... and from my point of view I say it shouldn't be a big deal. She's human, we all don't believe that what everyone does is right. Holding information out to her audience about being diabetic is her choice. If she doesn't want people in her business than she's in title to privacy. Also, it could have taken a while... years to cope with this information because it's a life changing thing. I think it's sad that people are attacking her on this subject.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing hitting the media is "but her food isn't healthy". No it's not, but who said you have to make it and eat it? And who says you can't alter it to make it healthy? It's comfort food. Comfort food isn't always healthy.
